Spring Studio Update
Hello everyone and happy spring! I hope everyone is doing well. I have been busy working on all things printmaking. I have my first show coming up in May! I’m trying to get ready for that as well as make a
couple new prints. I have a few announcements for you all as well. First, I finished some new prints I would
like to share with you, including the snowy owl I showed last time. In addition, I have a spring collection of prints for anyone who’s looking to spruce up their home this spring and an update on my online shop. I also had an artist interview with Golden State Art. I was selected for the artist spotlight and you can read the interview here. I talk about what inspires me and my process. I hope you enjoy it!
Starting with the online shop, I started revamping my Etsy shop. I plan to try to conduct most of my online sales through there. With that being said, I will still keep up my own personal shop here. Diving more into marketing, Etsy is a better platform for me. Also, Etsy offers discounted shipping rates; it is sometimes half the price of what I would pay on my own. Etsy is also offsetting all their shipping, making it carbon natural. Switching over my shop will take some time but I hope to have all my work over there. So far I have had pretty good success and more consistent sales on Etsy! You can check out my Etsy page here and use this code to get 10% off your order (MBS10 ). Also, all orders $35 and over ship free on Etsy.
In my last post, I left you with the starting of my snowy owl print. I am doing a series of owls inspired by the Arts and Crafts Movement. This started last year. I started exploring adding borders and decorative elements to my prints. I did a print of the great horned owl with a border that had elements of the owl’s environment. My goal was to give the owl prestige, as a top predator bird, a threatened bird, and a beautiful bird. I wanted to highlight it. I then had the idea to continue this series with other owls. The border will have a similar consistency to them while reflecting elements of each owl’s environment. They will also all be the same size, 9x12 inches. The snowy owl print took a very long time to carve; the border was very intricate and a lot of carving out. The border has elements of pine needles and snow to represent the area the snowy owl lives in. I am really happy with this print, all the hours paid off, and I hope you all enjoy it too! My next owl in this series will be the barn owl! I hope to start that print in May.
Spring is here and I have a collection of spring art, from digital prints to hand colored block prints! All of these prints are available on my Etsy shop. Simply click on one of the pictures below to view on Etsy.
I will be back in the first a May with a recap on my first art show of the year! I have my fingers crossed that it will be a good one! Until then, stay safe and have a great spring!
Bryan.
