Summer Adventure: Minnesota
This summer has taken me to many places across the country, I meet a lot of new people, had a lot of roller coaster ups and downs, I had bad shows, and then a show even worse than that. It took a toll on me and my art. This is my job and it has a lot of risks and I have had a bad run recently. The only thing I can do is take what I have learned and look forward. One thing that has gone well is all the traveling I got to do from it! I traveled to 8 states, had 3 art shows, went to 3 National Parks, hiked around 100 miles of trails, and saw a wide and diverse range of this beautiful Landscape! I have a few big projects that I will be working on for the remainder of the year and have some big and new changes coming for me and Mountain Bird Studios.
First I want to make aware of a recent show I had in Manitou Springs and warn any other artist or people looking for shows in the future. The people who put the show on, coloradoevents.org puts on many events throughout Colorado through the year. I can not stress enough if you are thinking about any of this events DO NOT!! They are just out to scam you and take your money. When I arrived the morning of the event ( they did not have any other setup times) I waited for 30 minutes tracking down the guy in charge to get my booth space. They did not have a pre-drawn up plan for us or them, he just pointed to a spot and said take it, to which many were doubled booked and had artists wondering whos spot it was. On their application it said only artist and handmade vendors were allowed, this was not the case, many other who had things manufactured set up shop as well as advertisers. They did not promote the event or spend any money on advertising, the chamber of commerce didn't know this event was being held. Nor did the locals around or the other galleries in the town. As you can imagine NO ONE SHOWED UP! It was a two-day event but after the day and having the truth be unveiled I decided to leave and not waste my time or money supporting them anymore. Now if you think that this could have been a one-time thing, I talked to many other vendors who have done a show a week before with the same people and the same thing happened. Please do not support them and spread the word about them. We artist work hard and travel long ways in the hopes of a good show and to have people scam us is truly sickening.
Now then, with all of my traveling that I got to do this summer I am producing several projects from it. First off is my photos from the trips! With that the first part of my journey was Minnesota. I will also be taking these photos and making a book out of them which I have a sneak peak to show you!
The book will be in three parts, Minnesota, Colorado, and Utah where I spent my time this summer. The book will have accounts of my trip as well as some poetry. I am still in the early stages so things may change but I am excited to be working on this and to see how it will unfold. I will probably be making a hard copy for myself and I am planing on having a E-book version for you all to have. More to come in due time!
The last news I would like to share for now is also reltated to the summers travel, I am in the process of making a mini documentry called Psalms of Nature. Basically it's about the seires of art I have been doing this year and the places that inspire me. I have been taking lots of viedos from my travels so far. I am planning on having more on this around September! I am super excited for this, it is something new and differnet for me but I believe it will really capture the heart of Mountain Bird Studios and my mission to conserve nature and the wildlife that lives in it.
I will have more updates soon and some more printimaking! I will also be updating my Events page through the Fall. Are you excited about my new projects? let me know! Write a comment or send me a email! Thanks for your support, be back soon!
