Welcome 2022
Hello and welcome to another year! I hope everyone is well and having a good start to the new year. I wanted to give a studio update and show what I’ve been working on.
In late August, I bought a little table top printing press that was on sale. However, I never had much time to play around with it besides printing a few block prints with it during the fall. After my shows ended for the year, I was able to start exploring new possibilities with the press. Not only am I able to print some of my block prints on it, I can also produce drypoint and monotype prints. I wanted to try mono prints for a while now, and I finally had the chance to do so. Incase you are wondering what a mono print is, let me explain. A mono print is simply a print that only produces one print and therefore, a mono print. Now this can take place in many forms. For my monotype exploration, I am using Akua printmaking ink on a piece of plexiglas. I put a reference image under the piece of plexiglass and then using the printmaking ink, I add and wipe away ink using brushes and rags to essentially paint the image on the plexiglass. Once this process is finished, I place the plate on the press with a piece of paper on top and crank it through the press. This transfers the ink onto the paper creating a print and leaving the plexiglass clean. Since all of the ink transfers on to the paper, it creates a mono print (one print). This has been a fun process to explore and I plan to do more.
Towards the end of 2021, I started doing some digital illustrations because I was wanting to improve and grow as a illustrator. I am evolving my style and exploring some folklore behind animals.
I also now have 5x7 matted digital prints! I had them in my last show of the year and they were a big hit! I have select styles right now but will be working towards all prints having a 5x7 matted option along with a 8x10 print option. Here are the available prints I have now, you can find them in the shop. Just go to the illustration you like and you will find both options! Check out the shop here
That’s all for now, I hope you enjoy and stay well!
Bryan.
